It is the world’s 9th highest mountains standing at 8125m. Nanga means naked and Parbat means mountain. The mountain is locally known by its Tibetan name Diamer or Deo Mir, meaning "huge mountain. It forms the western anchor of the Himalayan Range and is the westernmost eight-thousander. It is separated from the Karakoram by the mighty Indus River. The first expedition to Nanga Parbat was British expedition led by A. F. Mummery in 1895 but it was first climbed in 1953 by a joint Austrian - German Expedition. Hermann Buhl made the final ascent in a tortuous 41 hours solo ordeal without oxygen.
